I first started playing chess in 2007. I threw a Xmas party that year and someone bought me a glass chess set with shot glasses for pieces.  Now you must be thinking, "Awesome party dude".  It's not like that honest. We only busted that bad boy out at about 3am when all the naked dwarf wrestlers left and the fires were put out.

We played with shots of gin. It goes without saying, I was destroyed on and off the board.

The fact that I was playing a seasoned pro was unbeknown to be at the time. It would later occur to me that even though my Archenemy was so much better than me at the time, he took great care over his moves. I was compelled to learn and I've been playing ever since.  I joined chess.com on Sep 25, 2007 and have made steady progress.  I even managed to beat my arch-enemy.

I also follow Kingscrusher on youtube. He is brilliant at explaining his thought process while playing live chess. He has great commentary on other games too.
